SMART Share Collect new and gently used books for children in disadvantaged and difficult circumstances or create excitement for reading within schools by allowing students to share their favorite stories or authors. SMART Read In honor of Texas PTA’s Centennial, encourage students and families to read more individually and together as a family. Get SMART and join us in this important initiative. Students Families SMART Share Partners Share books with Title I Schools, family/women’s shelters, child advocacy associations (i.e. CASA, Ronald McDonald House, Any Baby Can), Head Start, or children’s hospitals. • See how CASA can benefit from SMART SMART Share Resources • Posters - Promote the program with posters available for purchase through Texas PTA • Collection Bin - Create and decorate your own book collection bin for your school • SMART Promotional Flier (English) • SMART Promotional Flier (Spanish) Other SMART Ideas • Host a used book sale to raise money. • Distribute books to early childhood centers or pediatric clinics. • Host a Family Night with families choosing free books to take home or do a book exchange. • Encourage high school students to recycle by donating books purchased for their English classes (possibly as a graduating senior activity). • Donate funds in celebration of Texas PTA’s Centennial to local school libraries to purchase books. SMART Read Challenge Individual students and families can choose from this list of reading goals: • 100 stories • 100 pages • 100 minutes • 100 books Texas PTA offers a downloadable certificate of recognition for all students/families completing the challenge by answering a few questions about their reading experience.
